Scholarships and Grants

We know that sport training is expensive. To help out, we provide a list of Provincial, National, and corporate funding opportunities to help you reach your best! Ranging from a few hundred dollars, to thousands, we hope that these links will help you reach your goals!

While we do our best to update this list, we are not responsible for errors and out of date information. If you know of a fund that we have missed, please send us the information to add to the list.

John Currie Amateur Sport Legacy Fund

Awarded to Calgary amateur athletes.

Due: February 28, 2017

Amount: unknown

Manoo and Jean Gurjar Legacy Fund

To provide annual financial support to the skiing and educational pursuits of 1 male and 1 female Canadian water skier annually who best represents the ideals established in honour of Manoo Gurjar.

Due: Summer

Amount: $1000

Take the Lead Grant

The Take the Lead Grant has been created to help Albertan girls and women become experienced leaders in the sport and recreation fields. Applicant must be a coach, official, or sport/recreation administrator in Alberta.

Due: April 30 & October 31

Amount: $1000/individuals or $3000/association

Amatuer Athletes Fund

From AthletesCan, and Investors Group, this fund is for Senior National Team Athletes. Must demonstrate financial need.

Due: January 31

Amount: $5000

Art Smith Sport Legacy Endowment Grant

Awarded to Calgary athletes who are committed in their pursuit of excellence.

Due: February 26

Amount: $1000

Alberta Sport Development Centers

Alberta Sport Connection has established a network of Alberta Sport Development Centres (ASDC) across the province. This program is designed to provide sport science and sport medicine services that complement the technical training that is lead by provincial team coaches.  

Al Hamilton Scholarship Award

North Alberta youth entering their first year of post-secondary education.

Due: TBA

Amount: $2000 for 4 years

Kyle Block Scholarship

The Kyle Block Scholarship is to assist worthy recipients pursue post-secondary studies while being active in sports (preferably high level hockey), music, fine arts or social issues.

Due: June 1

Amount: $2500+

Jumpstart by Canadian Tire

For families in need, with kids between 4 - 18 years old.

Due: ongoing

Amount: variable

Fueling Women Champions Grant

The Champions Fund was created by Canada’s dairy farmers to empower the female athletic community, to provide a resource that can help change the game for young girls and women athletes.

Due: TBA

Amount: 20 grants of $5000

Canadian Athletes Now Fund

Applications will be accepted from any active national team athlete who is training to represent Canada Internationally.

Due: twice annually, TBA

Amount: $6000

Edmonton Sports Travel Grant

To assist Edmonton athletes with travel costs for the purpose of competing in a sporting event at which a Western Canadian, National or International Champion is declared.

Due: ongoing

Amount: up to $450

The St. John Jeux Canada Games Foundation

To support athlete training, to pursue excellence in sports. Athletes must have the potential to be among the best in Canada.

Due: March 6

Amount: $500 - $2000

Stacey Levitt Memorial Award

Created in memory and celebration of Stacey Levitt's life. This annual high school student award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals, and Parachute’s overarching goal of a long life lived to the fullest.

Amount: $2500

Dale Carnegie Program

Intended to enable current and retired national team athletes to enroll in a Dale Carnegie program.

Due: ongoing

Amateur Sport Grant

Must be a not-for-profit, centered in/operating in Calgary.

Due: January 15th, May 15th, October 15th
